Prior to 1999, two spouse-related military organizations were serving the Newport area: The Naval War College Spouse Organization (NWCSO) and the Newport Naval Officers’ Spouses’ Club (NNOSC).
The two clubs shared a history of working together to fundraise, award local scholarships and support the Festival of the Tree event. On June 1, 1999, they combined to magnify their ability to both support spouses and the community.
Originally called the Newport Officers’ Spouses’ Club (NOSC), in September 2013, this changed to become more inclusive of other ranks and branches of service. The club membership ratified a new constitution, by-laws, and a new name—the Military Spouses of Newport Club (MSON).
MSON is open to all spouses of all branches of service. This includes active duty, reservists, retirees, and civilian employees affiliated with Naval Station Newport.
As a member, you are invited to attend any of our fun socials and regularly scheduled special interest activities - including coffee meet-ups, lunch bunch, playgroup, and book club. Join today and you can see some of our upcoming events, such as our much loved Fort Adams Ghost Haunt, Wine Tasting at Newport Cellars, a PRIVATE Bachelor viewing party, an Athleta private shopping experience, and MORE! (SSSHHH - we hope to host an event or two in one of Newport's historic mansions with the Newport Preservation Society!)
In addition to our social connections, MSON has a member-run store called THE SHIP'S BELL, which is located inside the Naval War College (NWC) in Newport Naval Station, Rhode Island. The Ship's Bell sells a wide range of NWC branded clothing, home decor and other gifts and collectables. All proceeds from The Ship's Bell funds our military-dependent Scholarship program and enable us to award community grants that provide monetary aid to those organizations supporting our local military community.
We invite you to join, volunteer, or help us lead.
